Whether you see yourself as an entrepreneur, business owners, or working professional if you are looking to reach greater heights of success, business coaching has become a necessity.
Business coaching is a powerful approach that enables individuals to unlock their full potential by developing crucial skills, identifying growth opportunities, and overcoming obstacles that may be hindering progress.
In this post, I’ll explore the various aspects of business coaching, including its benefits and how it differs from executive coaching. I’ll also provide guidance on finding the right coach for your specific needs, share a case study showcasing the impact of these services on revenue growth, and offer tips for maximizing your experience with a business coach.
When I started my business I know I wouldn’t have grown it as fast without a coach. I hope this blog helps you learn more about the value of business coaches.
A business coach’s main job is to help you get clear on business goals and be able to move towards them. Some of the times, the obstacle preventing business growth is a person’s soft skills or communication. While in other times it can be something like business goal setting and achievement.
Business coaching is a professional looking to resource and support business owners in achieving their business goals. It’s not unlike other types of coaching and the focus is on starting, growing, and running a business.
It’s an ongoing relationship between the coach and the client that focuses on identifying strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement in order to maximize success. The primary goal of business coaching is to help entrepreneurs, freelancers, or solopreneurs develop effective strategies for growth and sustainability.
A good business coach will work with clients to identify their goals and objectives, create action plans, provide accountability, challenge assumptions, offer feedback on progress made towards goals, and more. A business coach serves as a source of support and advice, providing an outlet for voicing any questions or ideas that come up while managing the company.
With an extensive background in management or entrepreneurship (although it’s not necessary), a business coach can provide invaluable insight into areas such as finance, marketing strategy development, and operations optimization that can result in improved performance over time. A business coach with knowledge in your sector can be a great asset, but sometimes having a great business coach with no expertise in your sector can be powerful.
At its core, business coaching is about helping you achieve success by understanding what works best for you individually: uncovering the hidden potential within yourself while developing new skill sets that are tailored specifically around your own needs as an entrepreneur or small business owner.
Benefits of Business Coaching
Business coaching can be a tremendous help for entrepreneurs and independent contractors.
It offers a host of benefits such as:
uncovering new and fresh perspectives
healthy coping strategies for business stress
transforming and overcoming limiting beliefs
enhancing productivity and profitability
safe space to talk through strategies
defining true success and ambitions
Having the right coach can make a huge difference in how quickly you progress toward achieving your business goals.
Business coaches provide valuable insight into the challenges faced by entrepreneurs on a daily basis.
A proficient business coach should have a deep background in helping small businesses through a successful coaching methodology. This means they’ll be able to provide tailored coaching sessions based on what works best for each client, rather than offering generic advice or no way to help you discover and uncover obstacles in your business.
An experienced coach can will help a client break down complex goals into achievable steps and offer tailored coaching sessions to help with accountability. A coach can be a valuable resource to have in your corner, providing an impartial ear for brainstorming or reflecting on concepts that may otherwise go unnoticed.
Key Thought: A business coach be able to provide tailored coaching sessions based on what works best for each client, rather than offering generic advice.
Business Coach vs Executive coach
Business coaching and executive coaching are two forms of professional coaching that can help business owners and working professionals achieve success.
Though both, business coaching and executive coaching, share some common strategies for aiding clients in their pursuit of success, there are notable distinctions between them.
Business coaches typically work with small business owners or start-ups needing coaching through growth, running a business, or other approaches relating to personal growth to help a business owner develop their business. For example, some business owners are boutique shops with no employees. So their coaching need wouldn’t be team development
Executive coaches tend to work with high-level executives who need assistance in developing leadership skills or navigating corporate politics. They may also help executives create effective teams within their organizations by providing insight into team dynamics and communication styles.
Business coaching and executive coaching are two different areas that provide help to individuals so they can be successful. It’s important to keep in mind that in a technical sense, a coach is a coach. Whether they call themselves a business coach or executive coach is more of a marketing tactic for their determined niche rather than a coaching skill set. All good coaches should be able to coach clients that are business owners or executives. It’s just some coaches prefer to work with one or the other.
Key Thought: Business coaching and executive coaching are two different disciplines that provide guidance to business owners, entrepreneurs, and professionals looking for success. The most important thing is finding a good coach!
How to Find a Business Coach
Finding a business coach can be a difficult task.
It’s as if most business coaches don’t want to market themselves, or there’s so good at it that you have to know exactly which business coach you want. You can do the normal “business coach near me” and find a few websites that are generic and offer little information.
But if you know who you are looking for and type in “business coach for female entrepreneurs” you’ll find business coaches that have niched down to their ideal client.
So the first question in finding a business coach is to ask yourself, “what type of coach do I want?”
You can find almost any type of coach you want so it’s important to think about the following:
do you want to meet online or in person? Depending on how you want to meet will determine a large part of your search constraints
some coaches prefer to see you visually while others want to do audio-only calls. Think of what’s important to you.
some coaches provide an introductory call in order to get to know them and ask questions. I recommend you also do this in order to learn more before starting any coaching engagement
is their business or entrepreneurial background important to you? If so, make sure to find out more in your introductory call.
do you care about having a particular set of physical attributes in a coach? Don’t feel guilty if you want your coach to look like you or have a similar background to you. Not every coach is for every person so choose based on what you are looking for.
and most importantly, ask yourself what you need from business coaching. Think through if you are looking for leadership skills, revenue growth, or something else.
When you’ve done all that then start searching the internet for coaches. When you can, interview potential coaches, make sure you feel comfortable communicating with them, and trust that they can meet your goals for success as a small business owner or working professional.
You can ask them what techniques they employ when coaching clients to help them reach their objectives. Or ask what’s unique about their particular coaching methodology. These types of questions will give insight into how well the two of you may work together in the future while helping ensure that both parties are on the same page regarding expectations moving forward.
Once you know what you are looking for let the search begin.
Go to the usual places like search engines, social media, or ask people you know if they have any coaches they’d recommend. Look through a coaches online presence and even sign up for their free stuff before considering their paid stuff.
Don’t be shy to explore unconventional methods when searching for a coach; scour online forums related to your field of expertise and take advantage of past successes others have had.
Locating a small business coach that satisfies your particular needs can be an intricate undertaking, yet with some exploration and exertion it is conceivable to locate the ideal fit.
Key Thought: Taking the time to thoroughly research potential coaches and ensure that they are a good fit for you is an important part of finding the right business coach.

Making the Most Out of Your Business Coaching Experience
To maximize the benefit of business coaching, it is important to be prepared. Prior to your initial session with a coach, take some time for reflection on the areas of life or business where you’d like assistance. Think about any goals that you have and how a coach can help you reach them.
Once you’ve selected a coach, be honest and open in each meeting. Share all relevant information about yourself or your business so they can best understand where you are coming from and how they can help support you toward success. Creating a trusting atmosphere is essential, so don’t be shy to ask.
Make sure to review each session’s discussion or do a journal (audio, verbal, or written) to cement the session in your mind. Doing this helps with recall and can ensure accountability, clarity, and more insight going forward.
With these tips in mind, anyone looking for coaching through their personal or professional journey should feel confident taking advantage of what a qualified business coach has to offer.

Just think about it, from the time you wake up to the time you go to bed, goals and desires are driving your behavior.
There have been some mornings where I’ve woken up and scrolled through social media for 15 minutes and later thought, “what just happened…how’d I get sucked in like that?”
It’s in those moments that I realize the importance of setting my goals and intentions so that I’m not drifting along with little direction. I know social media can easily increase stress levels so I usually have dedicated time to use it. So rather than being unfulfilled through endless scrolling, I reclaim my time and set goals that help me do more fulfilling work.
When we have faith in our capability to make progress in what we strive for, it brings us a feeling of fulfillment in our lives that can contribute to overall contentment. Additionally, having clear goals provides direction which reduces stress and anxiety associated with uncertainty or ambiguity about the future.
Staying motivated while pursuing your goals requires developing metrics for tracking and making progress toward the end goal.
Setting goals is an essential part of leading a successful and productive life. Creating achievable and attainable objectives can be accomplished through the proper techniques. Let’s explore some effective strategies for setting realistic goals.
Effective Techniques for Setting Goals
To maximize your goal setting, it’s important to prioritize tasks and maintain motivation by employing a goal framework. For this post, I’ll opt for the more widely known SMART framework when creating specific goals.
SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound. Creating specific goals using SMART criteria (Specific Measurable Achievable Relevant Timely) is a great way to make your goals clear and be successful in achieving them.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what each word means:
Specific: Define a clear and specific goal, with no ambiguity or vagueness.
Measurable: Identify how to track your progress and measure your success using quantifiable or observable indicators.
Achievable: Ensure that your goal is realistic and achievable given your resources, time, and abilities.
Relevant: Ensure that your goal aligns with your interests, values, and priorities and supports your overall academic, personal, or career growth.
Time-bound: Set a deadline or timeframe to achieve your goal and break it down into smaller milestones.
Here’s an example of a SMART goal for a new business owner who needs to post more on social media: “By the end of next week, I will start posting at least two social media updates per day on weekdays and at least one post per day on weekends for the next three months to increase my business’s online visibility, engagement, and website traffic.”
Specific: Increase the number of social media posts for my business.
Measurable: Post at least two social media updates per day on weekdays (Monday through Friday) and at least one post per day on weekends (Saturday and Sunday).
Achievable: This is achievable for the business owner to accomplish given their schedule and available resources, such as scheduling tools or outsourcing to a social media manager.
Relevant: Increasing the number of social media posts will help increase the business’s online visibility, engage with customers, and drive more traffic to the business’s website.
Time-bound: Start posting more frequently on social media within the next two weeks, and maintain the posting frequency for at least the next three months.
Setting goals is an important step in achieving success, and using the SMART framework when creating specific goals can help you stay on track.
Key Thought: Using the SMART goals framework to create specific goals, breaking long-term objectives into smaller milestones, and tracking progress toward the end goal are all essential tools for achieving success.
Staying Motivated While Pursuing Your Goals
Being enthusiastic and devoted over the long haul can be challenging, yet it is fundamental to stay motivated to see a goal through.
Tracking progress toward your end goal is one way to help keep yourself motivated. Keeping track of your progress helps you recognize how far you’ve come and provides an incentive to continue working hard.
This could involve creating small milestones along the way or setting up rewards when certain goals are achieved. (This is one of my favorite things to do!)
Identifying your positive emotions can also keep you motivated. When you break goals down into smaller tasks and complete them you get a dopamine hit and it makes the overall go less daunting.
Plan ahead and incorporate actionable items associated with your goal into your daily routine – even if it’s just 15 minutes of research. Taking small steps towards completing the bigger picture will lead to increased motivation in achieving more.
By staying focused and motivated, you can achieve your goals despite major obstacles that come up. To ensure success, it is essential to recognize potential problems and how to avoid them when pursuing objectives.
Avoiding Common Pitfalls When Setting Goals
There are some common pitfalls to avoid when creating goals. Understanding why we often fail at achieving our desired outcomes is the first step in avoiding these pitfalls.
People often fail in reaching their goals and they try to change too many things all at once. This can be overwhelming and lead to burnout or frustration if it’s not done properly. It’s best to start with one or two most important areas before making adding more.
Procrastination is another pitfall that can derail goal-setting efforts quickly if not addressed early on in the process. To prevent this, break down long-term goals into smaller milestones and focus on taking small steps each day instead of trying to do everything all at once.
Also, establish ways to monitor your progress so you can determine how close you are to achieving your goal—this will give an extra push for success.
By understanding the common pitfalls of goal setting, we can make better decisions and increase our chances of success.
Key Thought: Avoid potential goal pitfalls like attempting too much at once or delaying longer than you need to.

How Does Life Coaching Work?
It’s important to know there is a coach and a client in a coaching session.
A coach can assist the client in setting goals, creating plans to reach them, and obtaining the skills/resources needed for improvement in the coaching session.
The process of life coaching usually begins with gaining clarity before setting goals. Your life coach will want to make sure you understand his or her role as the coach and your role as a client. You are a partnership and the coach’s role is to help you uncover the true roadblocks holding you back and move past them.
Your coach will help you discover what’s most important to YOU, set realistic expectations, and prioritize tasks that are essential for healthy progress.
Once the goal-setting stage is complete, a great coach will help you identify ways to get into action. Life coaches use techniques such as brainstorming ideas, problem-solving strategies, role-playing scenarios, or even visualization exercises in order to move forward toward achieving your goals.
During this phase of life coaching sessions focus on identifying potential roadblocks or obstacles that may prevent you from reaching success so they can be addressed accordingly.

This could involve teaching specific methods of how best to approach certain situations or activities which can lead to better decision-making down the line.
With the right life coach by your side, you can take steps towards making positive changes in all areas of your life (even if you just need a better work-life balance).
Key Thought: A life coach can help you recognize aspirations, create plans to realize them, and acquire the competencies needed for accomplishment. A good coach provides support when challenges arise – helping individuals with goal attainment and making positive changes in their lives.

By exploring their inner self, the client can gain an awareness of what drives them and how to make use of their unique skills for achieving their long-term goals. This helps them identify which areas need attention in order to reach their goals.
A coach will work with individuals to develop actionable plans that lead toward success. The coach will also provide support during times of difficulty or doubt while encouraging accountability through progress-tracking methods such as goal-setting exercises and check-ins.
Working with a life coach can enable an individual to gain a heightened awareness of themselves, and may increase their self-confidence in making decisions as well as strengthen the relationships they have with others due to more self-awareness communication skills.

Types of Coaching
There are many different types of coaching available. I’ll note a few below each with its own unique focus and approach.

It can also help individuals transition into new roles or industries more easily by providing advice on networking, interviewing techniques, resume writing, job search strategies, etc.

Mindfulness coaching involves aiding individuals to become cognizant of their ideas and sentiments, so as to make deliberate choices about how they wish to lead their lives. Through mindfulness practices, such as meditation, these coaches guide clients toward greater self-awareness which leads to improved mental clarity and peace of mind.
Business coaching focuses on helping entrepreneurs and small business owners develop leadership skills or develop a business focus for success. These coaches ask powerful questions so that business owners have all the tools necessary for success at every stage of development.
Relationship coaching assists couples or individuals who are experiencing difficulties within their relationship whether it be communication issues or trust issues among other things. The goal is not only to improve communication between partners, but also to increase understanding between both parties involved so that resolutions may be found when conflict arises.
Executive coaches work closely with executives on leadership, team and time management, and workplace culture. This type of coaching helps executives maintain a healthy work-life balance while still achieving high professional performance.
Life Vision Coach:
A life vision coach works collaboratively with clients to reveal what truly brings them joy – from setting up a family, beginning an exciting venture, or honing the skill of financial management. This type of coaching provides direction based on one’s values while encouraging exploration into uncharted waters where the opportunity lies in wait.
Spiritual coaches focus on helping clients uncover spiritual truths within themselves through guided conversations around topics such as faith direction, inner peace, and forgiveness. This type of coaching encourages individuals to explore parts of themselves they may have been unaware existed priorly while offering insight into difficult questions one may have regarding spirituality.
Considering the various coaching options, it is worth exploring if life coaches require any official credentials.
Do Life Coaches Need to Be Certified?
Short answer, no.
Although many people seek out life coaches for help with goal setting, overcoming obstacles, and achieving success. No governing body oversees the life coaching industry, yet there are various certifications that can show a coach’s knowledge and proficiency.
Having a certification does not guarantee the quality of a coach’s work. But it does show potential clients that they have taken steps to learn more about the field and gain skills related to life coaching.
For example, if someone has obtained a coaching credential then this shows they may have completed training in areas such as ethics, client-coach relationship dynamics, communication techniques, and professional standards of practice.
Some certification programs require additional hours of study beyond those required for certification. These courses provide more advanced learning opportunities related to various aspects of coaching including assessment tools, psychological principles, and strategies for working with different types of clients or situations.
This type of program may provide even greater assurance that a coach has comprehensive knowledge and experience in the area they are working in.
Having a certified life coach can help to ensure that you are receiving the best advice and guidance for your needs. But don’t use it as your only criteria of selecting a coach.
Key Thought: Before settling on a life coach, be sure to do your homework and check for certifications or accreditations; this can help guarantee that you’re making the right choice.
Life Coach vs Therapist, What’s The Difference?
Life coaching and therapy are two different practices, but they both strive to help people improve their lives.
Life coaches focus on helping individuals be forward-focused, reach specific goals, and make changes in their lives. They provide support, guidance, accountability, and encouragement to help clients achieve success.
Therapists are licensed and provide mental health treatment for psychological issues, such as anxiety or depression, by delving into past experiences that could be causing current distress.
Life coaches typically work with clients who are generally emotionally healthy but want assistance in reaching a goal or making a change in their lives. Clients may come to a life coach with an objective in mind, whether it be launching a venture or enhancing their relationships at home and/or work.
On the other hand, therapists typically treat those suffering from mental health issues, which requires more intensive treatment than life coaching can offer.
Life coaching and therapy both their distinct advantages, yet it is essential to grasp the distinctions between them to pick the right one for your personal growth and requirements.
Key Thought: Life coaching and therapy are two distinct practices that strive to improve the lives of individuals. Life coaches help clients be focused on the future while therapists focus on treating mental health issues by exploring past experiences.

It’s difficult to thrive in life without transformation because it requires a deep and lasting shift in your beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors.
Many people feel overwhelmed or intimidated by the idea of making meaningful changes to their life. Probably because there are so many notifications, tasks, updates, and other time demands competing for your time. And if it’s not that, it could be due to a struggle with fear of the unknown or fear of failure, which can hold a person back from taking action.
Transformation is a powerful tool that can help you thrive in your personal and professional life. At its core, transformation is about making meaningful changes to yourself and other areas of your life. It involves a deep and lasting shift in your beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors that leads to positive growth and development.
To thrive in life means to experience a sense of fulfillment, satisfaction, and well-being. It involves living a life that aligns with your values and goals, and experiencing a sense of purpose and meaning.
Thriving in life goes beyond just being happy or successful, it involves having a deep sense of contentment and joy in all areas of your life, including relationships, career, and personal growth. It is about living a life that feels meaningful and purposeful and being able to handle challenges and setbacks with resilience and grace.
Transformation is a powerful tool that can help you thrive in your personal and professional life.
The key to making intentional changes in your life is to start small and take action; even if it feels uncomfortable or scary at first.
One approach to transformation is to focus on developing a positive attitude. The attitude we have towards something allows us to judge a person, idea, or object quickly, which can be helpful when needed for an emergency. But often, we judge situations poorly and this can influence what we focus on.
So if you are focusing on what could go wrong it’s unlikely you are conscious of the things that could go right, or things that need to be improved.
By cultivating a positive attitude (which has a lot of similarities with a growth mindset), you can develop resilience and a sense of optimism that will help you navigate the ups and downs of life.
Another approach is to seek support from a coach, mentor, or mental health professional who can help you identify areas for growth and provide guidance and accountability as you navigate the transformation process. Additionally, developing a daily self-care routine that includes exercise, healthy eating, and meditation can help you create a strong foundation for transformation.

Fear of change: Fear of the unknown can be a major obstacle to transformation. To overcome this fear, it is important to take small steps and celebrate each success.
Self-doubt and limiting beliefs: Negative self-talk can hold you back from transformation. By challenging limiting beliefs and replacing negative self-talk with positive affirmations, you can build confidence and self-esteem.
Lack of support: Surrounding yourself with supportive people can help you stay motivated and accountable as you transform your life.
Perfectionism: Striving for perfection can lead to anxiety and self-doubt. By accepting imperfection and celebrating progress, you can overcome this obstacle.
Transformation is a powerful tool that can help you create a more fulfilling and satisfying life. By focusing on personal growth, resilience, and self-awareness, you can overcome obstacles and achieve your goals.
